YOU can HELP!

Barrio Bayanihan

A fellow blogger said if we are spared let us help. There are lot of ways to help, whether you are in another country, another town, another province if you are willing to help then there are thousand of ways to do it. Of course we can always anytime pray for them but wouldn't it be more nice if we also help in actions?

saw this post from a fellow Christian blogger too, and thought of re posting it here just in case you want to give something.

Here's the post from the Barrio Bayanihan site..I encourage you to go there and help.

My fellow bloggers, readers and lurkers; it breaks our heart seeing all these images and watching the videos coming from Manila – the wrath and devastation not only to properties but also to the lives of our fellow Filipinos. Tropical typhoon Ondoy is not only creating havoc but also bringing epic floods in the Metropolitan Manila area.

In the spirit of Barrio Siete, I invite you all to join our Bayanihan Fund Drive: Donate to Ondoy Flood Victims. Very simply:

1.) Make a donation to our Bayanihan Fund Drive: Donate to Ondoy Flood Victims. If you can’t, then help us by making this viral and create an entry entitled: “Bayanihan Fund Drive: Donate to Ondoy Flood Victims“. A link to this original entry will be appreciated where your readers can make a donation. Please leave us a note in the comment section if you are joining so we can list your entry, in case the pingback doesn’t work.

2.) Invite other bloggers to join our “Bayanihan Fund Drive: Donate to Ondoy Flood Victims”

3.) We will list the names of the donors in a worksheet, their organization and/or their websites, unless they prefer to be anonymous.

4.) The listing will be updated regularly and will be posted here in Barrio Siete Dot com.

5.) We are only accepting monetary donations in currencies accepted by Paypal.

6.) All donations will be remitted only to the Philippine National Red Cross in Manila. (We have not made any contact with them yet.)

7.) If you prefer: You can make donations directly to the Philippine National Red Cross. Here is the link: Ways to donate

In Barrio Siete, this is where you can make your donation. We will in turn, turn this over to the Philippine National Red Cross.

Your donation will surely be of help.

Ondoy and the flood

the gate/garage
our dining area
our motorbikes
the kitchen - so obviously we were not able to cook food for a time

Those are some of the pictures we took last Saturday. It's my first personal experience of house being flooded. As you all now we just moved in a little over a month ago and when the water started coming inside the house noontime last Saturday, I was like..what? we are being flooded? because the landlord didn't mention about that, but then a little later I learned that Metro Manila and some nearby provinces are submerged in water and also I also learned that the last time this house/area get flooded was 20 years ago.

It's scary, watching the water going deep, you do not know what to think, good thing the bedrooms are upstairs so we have an option, but right at that moment i was thinking what if the rain don't stop?

Praise God we are all safe, the water was knee deep inside the house, we moved up all the stuff we can moved because were afraid the water might get even higher, it reached near the kitchen sink, an up to our not so Kohler faucets but outside it's worse as you can see the motorbikes are all underwater.

I almost did not sleep, I wanted to watch the water subside and make sure it won't get deeper. And the news is even depressing, there are still people on their roof waiting for rescue and it's already midnight, people sleeping at the LRT station, and the facebook is swamped with messages of people asking for help.

It's not a good weekend. But I do hope and pray everyone gets back to track after this calamity. My heart goes to them who lost their loved ones, lost their homes. And in the end I still end up praising HIM because he made us safe in HIS hands.

Birth Announcement

If you have a 19.2 pound baby you won't be needing a nice, creative or unique birth announcements anymore because the media will be all over you and the world will know in an instant that you just delivered a big baby. But of course not all of us will have that fate and I know most of mommies out there wouldn't want that because it's very risky, so if you happen to deliver a baby with normal weight and you are proud and you want the world or at least part of your world to know that you just gave birth, you can use birth announcement from peartreegreetings.com. Just like the one below, nice no? Can't wait to do something like this.

19.2 pound jumbo baby

He was delivered through CS section and if you wonder how he got that big, it is because the mom is diabetic and that raised her glucose level and the baby's. It is really a must to those pregnant women to really take good care of their health while pregnant or else something like this would happen.

Here's the story and picture from yahoo news

This photo provided by Abdul Manan District Hospital shows newly born baby boy Muhammad Akbar Risuddin, the heaviest newborn ever recorded in the country on September 23, 2009. An giant Indonesian newborn has become a tourist attraction, with dozens of people crowding a hospital to see the 8.7 kilogramme (19.2 pound) baby boy, his mother said Friday.

Inventory software for your business

Small business, home business, small investment, been researching for articles, good reads, tips and everything about it for the last few days, I do that during my free time while updating status and checking feeds on facebook :)

And somehow I stumbled upon this inventory software, one that would be of big help for business owners out there, especially in the stocks/warehousing area. One item has actually some features like this;

• Barcode Printing
• Automated Physical Counts
• Support for Store Manager Classic
• Price, Cost, & SLP Lookups
• Vendor & Location Lookups
• Add, Subtract & Replace Inventory
• Add New Items
• Edit Item Information
• Change Item Location
• Built-in Reports
• Export Capabilities

Somehow, small business might become easier if you have this no?

I want another holiday

To say that I am ecstatic because it’s Friday is an understatement. It’s so early in the morning and I can’t wait for this day to end. I’m beginning to love as in dearly love weekends, because it only means rest for me. And for this weekend, I am looking forward to some pampering time. Foot spa, haircut, manicure and pedicure. Who wouldn’t be excited right?

I also had a conversation over facebook chat with my best friend last night, and we are planning a get away weekend somewhere. I actually asked for it. I don’t know. I just feel that I need to do something new, something different. Honestly speaking, I am getting bored of what I am doing here in Manila. Maybe that’s the reason why I am sad and mad for the past days or of course we women can always have that universal excuse. Blame the hormones and because I have much hormonal imbalance due to PCOS you can blame that too.

Anyways, so my friend and I thought of a weekend getaway in a beach or a nice resort in Subic. I suggested that too. Well, I can’t think of much better way to relax than go on a holiday with friends. I do not know if Subic has Cornwall cottages like they have in UK, I took time to look at over the internet and saw that they are so nice. A home away from home indeed. A one week stay in this place will rejuvenate me ten times. Hehe! but any ordinary holiday cottages in an ordinary resort will do for now, or a beach somewhere, maybe Anawangin again if possible or Puerto Galera. Anywhere it would be it is fine with me as long as I go on a holiday soon!

And to think we just came from Cebu last month. Hay, what’s happening to me? I hope I can find ways to make these self catering holidays cheap. Or do I need to work hard so I can have a holiday well spent?

Pregnant woman got pregnant again

A woman is having two babies but they are not twins! While she is pregnant she conceived again after two and half weeks. The doctors saw it while having her regular ultra sound. Sounds impossible and it's extremely rare according to the experts.

And the doctor said the two babies might be born in different year, the older at the end of this year and the younger one at the first month of 2010.

Watch the video here.

No TV at home

One comment we usually get when we have visitors at home is about us not having TV. We have televison set which we bought at a very cheap price 3 years ago but since we just moved to our new place a month ago, we still don’t have cable subscription and without it our TV is useless. I wish we can afford something like bell tv but I don’t think they are available here.

And honestly, we are not so keen in applying cable because for sure that would add up to our monthly bill and besides I don’t think it is a necessity except of course when you have guests who want to watch TV shows.

Good thing I can watch and read news over the internet. I’m still updated.

We took a lot of sky photos when we were in Cebu. These ones were taken by my husband at Fort San Pedro.

Tuxedo Business Suites in Cebu

And because we are not the "rich couple having their vacation in Cebu while the business is doing well in Manila" long before we had this trip I scoured the internet for cheap hotels, inns and hostels in the entire Cebu over and over just to make sure we don't regret it.

But sad to say I failed. And this is the point where I have wished na sana we are rich and that we could afford a five star hotel everywhere, yes even the gulf shores Alabama hotels and not worry of the expenses.

So I booked " Tuxedo Business Suites" because it's the cheapest place I found. Room for 4 person is at 1,300.00 but really the service is so bad. There is only one man, one receptionist and one guard when we get there. The room smells old. The aircon is surprisingly good. You have all the basic, like towels, slippers and a soap which is fine with us but the fact that they don't give you free hot water for coffee does not sit well with us and they said they have 24 hour convenience store but it is only like a "sari-sari" store which only sells noodles and coffee . Oh well for its cheap price I guess you just get what you paid for. So I should stop complaining now no? It looks good though in the picture.

I've seen a lot of nice but not too expensive place to stay in Cebu, I hope I can post them also so it would be of help to those who are thinking of traveling in a budget to Cebu in the future.

Furnace Filters

Filterfast.com is having a big sale. You can buy discounted price of air, water and furnace filters.
So for those of you who have been putting off buying that aircon filter or air filter, I guess now is the best time for you to buy it. And though I do not have an air conditioner at home ( hoping to have one next year!!) I know that having a good filter means having good airflow meaning more electricity save. I’m sure it works basically the same with furnace filter.

Kitchen remodeling

One of the last place we visited in Cebu is the newly opened Parkmall, this is in Mandaue and it’s very new, few shops are open and there are still lots of vacant stalls. It looks so big but when you get in there, you can visit the all the stores in less than an hour. So we stayed there and waited, one thing that I liked though is the Expo bath and home shop. My eyes feasted on beautiful bath tubs and whirlpool, wash basin, toilet bowls that will surely wow you especially when you see the price tag. One bathtub actually cost 400,000 plus. I think I can already buy a house and lot with that.

We also saw kitchen and living room furniture, I so love the couches which cost a fortune also. Someday when I get rich I will also have them. I will have the grandest kitchen ever. I want the beautiful granite counter tops Tacoma, Washington, Redmond houses and other local communities in the US have this kind of counter top. I actually just saw a blog who recently had her kitchen remodeled and it was beautiful. Look good and pretty easy to clean.

Well, I can keep on dreaming of beautiful bedroom, kitchen and toilet but for me to realized that dream, have to get back to work.

Bye everyone! Watch out for our Cebu pictures soon!

Quick post from Cebu

yes, we are in Cebu now and I'm posting from internet shop here at SM while dear hubby is there at the music store. The trip so far is good, it's tiring but I think we're done with the city tour. I'll post photos of course as soon as we get back to Manila. We've eaten the famous CnT lechon this lunch and you won't believe that we finish a kilo of it. Good luck with our diet and hope there is a good acne medication just in case we get it for eating so much of oily and fatty foods. We're bringing some back home, it's funny cause all we think are the food we will be bring home with us..hahaha!

Anyways, got to go now, hubby is here already.

Enjoy your weekend!

Bad weather, good food

I was wrong, I thought it would be a a good weather day because Mr. sun is peeking this morning when I went to office but it turned out to be a bed weather day, it's been raining since I don't know what time maybe right after I entered the office door.

That's why I was surprised when I saw a lot of friends status over Facebook saying it's a rainy lazy day. Some are even thinking of food to go along with this weather. I just wonder why most people have the appetite when it's raining. Even friends who are taking the best weight loss pills eat like there's no tomorrow on lazy weather like this.

I just hope that the weather in cebu is not as bad as here. Otherwise we'll be stucked in our room and sleep and eat. But that wouldn't be too bad also, at least we are in Cebu. hehe!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY

Beautiful blue sky but not a beautiful sight

Beautiful clouds but not beautiful life

Sometimes I myself think that life is unfair
Others can’t decide what clothes to choose from their wardrobe
Others don’t have any clothes at all
Others throw spoiled foods from their overflowing fridge
Others don’t have food at all
Others complain of not having the best bed in their room
Others don’t have bed at all
Others complain of not being able to buy home insurance
Others don’t have home at all.

But then again, we always have a choice.
God as far as I know is always willing to help us
Only if we want to help ourselves
You can choose to remain poor
But you also have a choice to get out of it.

Traveling light to CEBU tonight

We're leaving tonight for Cebu ( I know I've mentioned it too many times already) but I am excited people so please bear with me. It would be a nice break for me and hubby especially at this point in time where dear husband needs all the thinking and relaxing before making one big decision for a major change.

Thank God the weather is not too bad as t has been these last few days, my friend from Cebu said it rain occasionally in there but only on afternoons so we can bear that.

We are traveling LIGHT because our plane fare is only 450.00 per passenger round trip. Got that last March in one of Cebu Pacific's lowest promo. Obviously that does not include a check in baggage and we are fine with that, we don't need much clothes anyway and certainly no UGG boots or any rubber shoes for hubby there.

Again, like any of our other trips, this will be a budget trip as we don't have money to splurge but I assure you that won't hinder us from enjoying.Hope I can post details with all the expenses we will incur, who knows it might help those who wants to travel in budget too.

Have a nice weekend everyone!!

Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Rainy but long weekend

yes, we are all having rainy weekend and it sucks because we were supposed to go to Cogeo and visit my cousin with our motorbike but because the road is not safe and we don't want to soak ourselves, we decided we will just take the bus. For those who have cars make sure you have rain guards and that you drive carefully.

It's a long weekend again and saying I am happy is an understatement. I am ecstatic..hehe! I love long weekends and with the September 21st being holiday again, it makes me off all Mondays of September!! wohoo! Next Monday which is hubby's birthday, we will be in Cebu.

Enjoy your long weekend everyone!

Weekend plans

It's weekend once again! It seems only yesterday when I was making plans of going home to Cabanatuan and see my friends. Time is flying so fast indeed!

Well, as for our weekend plans and I hope I get to accomplish everything I will list down here.
Domestic duties muna.

SATURDAY
1. Dentist appointment - I should prioritize this otherwise I won't be able to do anything because of this toothache.

2. Wet Market - We thought it would be cheaper if we will buy at least 2 weeks food supply in the market rather than buying it from Cash and Carry.

3. Laundry - Since we are in the tipid mode, I decided we will just do the laundry instead of taking them to laundry shop.

SUNDAY
I should rest naman after all I had a tooth extraction Saturday di ba?
Hahaha! I just realized how will I do all those stuff when I just had nga pala a tooth extraction. Silly me.

So it's a rest weekend after all?? If that's the case I hope I can still work online this weekend, maybe I can join a friend who is working in an insurance marketing firm on her late night schedule or I can just play and play games on facebook. I hope our internet application will be approved and installed soon so I'll have something to do this weekend.

For the meantime, it is still not weekend so meaning I still have to work.
Here's wishing you all a great Friday and a meaningful weekend!!!

How to Be More Emotionally Present to Your Family

......No Matter How Busy You Are

6 Steps to Enjoying Your True Wealth
By Bo Sanchez

We were going to Hong Kong that day. I was going to preach for three days but had two extra days to be with my family. Picture us at the airport: My wife carrying our baby in her arms, my eldest son bouncing about like a rabbit and announcing to the whole world, "I'm going to Hong Kong Disneyland!" And the poor skinny father? Straining to push eight massive bags on a wobbly cart with a stubborn right wheel. (I've noticed that these deranged carts supernaturally end
up with me wherever I go.)

That was when we heard the crying.

Correction. Not crying. But spine-chilling, lung-busting screaming. Two kids were holding onto their mother. They were separated by four-foot tall steel bars. But to those distraught children, those steel bars represented two years of being without their mother—the contract of a domestic helper in Hong Kong.

Four small arms clutching, grabbing, not letting go.

The whole world heard their pleading scream, "Mommy, please don't go! Please don't go!" I'll never forget the mother's pained, tortured face - as though a knife was ripping through her body. My wife cried openly. I wept inside and held onto my kids more closely.

That was two days ago. Yesterday, the story continued...

Those Small Arms Continue to Reach Out Yesterday was Sunday.

And I walked around Central.

If you don't know Hong Kong, Central is where thousands upon thousands of Filipina Domestic Helpers congregate. They sit on sidewalks. They sit on overpasses. They sit by storefronts.

I walked passed one woman who was reading a handwritten letter.

The handwriting was obviously a child's penmanship.

I walked passed another listening to a little cassette player--not to listen to music--but to a voice of a kid telling stories.

But what broke my heart was the news given to me by Shirley, the head of one organization that tries to help them get financial education. I was shocked by what she said. "Brother Bo, out of our 700 members who are married, 80% is already separated from their husbands."

Families aren't designed for prolonged separation.

They're not just made for that.

We're supposed to spend time together.

6 Steps to Spending More Time with Your Family No Matter How Busy You Are

"Bo, why are you telling me this? I'm not in Hong Kong. I'm living with my family under one roof."

Listen. Yes, you're not in Hong Kong.

But if you don't have time for your family--and your heart is not focused on them--you might as well be in another country.

You could be physically present but are you emotionally present as well?

Let me share with you six important steps you could take to become more emotionally present with them...

Step #1: Be Close.
I'm still in Hong Kong as I write this piece.

It's five in the morning as I type this article in bed. And my little family is literally around me because we're all sleeping on one bed. Yes, we've become one mass jumble of intertwined humanity—our limbs, legs and arms crisscrossing each other. And that's when I realize—gosh, I don't know how blessed I am.

Why?

Here I am with my family. I feel their skin. I smell their scents. We're so close, I feel their breath.

And yet I'm surrounded by 148,000 domestic helpers here in Hong Kong that have been away from their families for months, for years, for decades.

And for those who've separated forever.

Let me say it again: We don't know how blessed we are.

We complain that our families are nutty. But we don't understand how blessed we are to have them close enough to experience their nuttiness. We complain about our petty quarrels, our cold wars, our dysfunctionality.

But whose family isn't dysfunctional?

I've talked to some people here in Hong Kong who would give anything to be with their families again even for just one day of nuttiness. The first step is to be more emotionally present to your family is to actually be physically present to them. Be close!

You need to know how precious your family is and treat them that way. You need to see them as your true wealth, that nothing is more precious than your relationships.

Step #2: Be Deliberate.

Because you need to protect this treasure or they get stolen from you. No matter how busy I am, I schedule a weekly romantic date with my spouse.

Yes, I actually write it down in my appointment book and treat it like a meeting with the President of the Philippines. These weekly nights are blocked off for the entire year. Nothing can touch it, except some dire emergency.

Why? Because if my marriage fails, everything else stands to fail as well: My ministry, my businesses, my soul... So it is an emergency that I bring her out every week.

I also schedule a weekly date with my kids.

I believe parents need to do these one-on-one dates with each of their kids. Unless of course you've got 18 children and may need to bring them out by two's or three's.

Sometimes my son and I just walk around the village and talk. It doesn't have to be big. But swapping stories and opening our hearts to one another on a consistent basis is already very big to them. It means they matter to you - that you value them - and you'll see their self-esteem grow.

Step #3: Be Expressive.
I tell my wife "I love you" seven times a day.

I hug my kids countless of times a day.

At night, I tell my kids, "I'm so proud you're my son. I'm so proud I'm your Daddy. You're a genius. You're a loving boy. You're an incredibly gifted young man..."

This is true. I have met 40-year olds who long to hear these words from their parents - "I'm proud of you," and feel an empty space – like a gaping wound in their souls because their parents have never told them this.

Don't do that to your kids.

And before I forget: Praise your kids seven times a day.

And praise your spouse seven times a day.

I'm not kidding. It will revolutionize your marriage.

If I say, "Criticize your spouse seven times a day," I bet you'd say, "Kaunti naman. I do that already." But that's the problem. We don't realize that when we criticize our spouses, we actually destroy our marriage bit by bit - not just our spouses.

But when you praise and honor your spouse - you build up your marriage.

It can be very simple stuff: Ang sarap ng luto mo ngayon, Hon. I thank God He gave you to me.
You're so hardworking. I love it when I see you play with the kids. You know how to make me happy. Ganda mo ngayon.

Keep on doing this and you'll see changes in your life and your marriage you thought were not possible.

Let me say it again: Praise your spouse - and your children – seven times a day.

Step #4: Be Deep.
Your weekly dates shouldn't just be watching movies, eating out and going home.

Talk deep.

Talk about your feelings.

Enter into each other's worlds. Dive into each other's dreams, hurts, desires, worries, hopes and burdens.

When you open yourself up to your spouse or your child, there are more chances for the other person to open up to you.

Step #5: Be Simple
Yesterday afternoon, I preached to 700 people in Hong Kong. I usually give my talks for 45 minutes. That's been my trademark. But yesterday, I gave a solid two-hour talk. Vein-popping, heart-pounding, passion-driven talk - because I had a burden in my heart.

Because I preached on Financial Literacy.

I challenged them, "Raise your financial I.Q.!"

I scolded them, "When you left the Philippines, you told your kids, 'Anak, two years of separation lang 'to. After two years, Mommy will have saved enough and will go home and we'll be together again.' But after two years, you go home and you haven't saved. Because you repainted the house. Because there's a new TV set in the living room and a new gas range in the kitchen. Because the kids have new designer rubber shoes.

I taught them how to live simply and ruthlessly save 20% of their income. Because unless they do this, they will be forever trapped in Hong Kong.

Look at your life. Are you living simply? Are you saving 20% of your income?

Step #6: Be Financially Intelligent
I also taught them where to invest. I told them, "It's not enough to just save. You need to know where to put your money. Because savings accounts at 1% and time deposits at 5% won't do. Inflation - which is at 7% - will simply eat them up."

So I taught them about mutual funds and other investment vehicles, including the ability to sell something and get into business.

Here's the truth: The more you know about money, the less time you need to make money. So the more time you have for your family.

Actually, a time should come when you don't need to make money. Instead, you let money make money. And that requires financial intelligence.

Read. Attend seminars. Look for mentors.

Go Home.

After giving my talk, I took a deep breath and told my audience in Hong Kong, "When you follow these principles and have saved enough - please go home. Please go home to your children."

I made a lot of people cry that day. I'm telling you the same thing.

Oh yes, you may be living with your family in one house, but it's possible that your heart is so far away from your spouse and kids – and they are far away from you as well.

You need to let your heart go home.

Go home my friend.

Your heart belongs there.
***********************************************************************************

Got this form my email a while ago and felt the need to share. We went to Hongkong also last February and ministered to our fellow Filipinas there and it is so true, they really longedto be with their families, as soon as you talk to them, they will immediately share how much they missed their kids, their families back home. I'm sure they've learned a lot about Bo's seminar and hopefully they'll go home someday with enough money to start their life here and be with their loved ones.

Sick again

I don't know why I have been sickly these last few months. I have always been healthy since childhood days and as a matter of fact I was never admitted to hospital for confinement in my whole 36 years of existence. And I am so thankful for that.

So yesterday, I was not able to come to office again because I have to stay in bed and rest, severe cough and colds and I just felt so weak. I am not still feeling well today but I forced my self to report to work otherwise I'll be reprimanded na. Hay buhay slave talaga.

I wonder what's wrong with me? I'm taking vitamins naman and am not doing any physically hard work naman. Ist it because I'm really becoming so old? sigh..or it has something to do with PCOS or weight problem? Do you think it is time for me to enroll in weight loss program? I guess yes.

I need to motivate my self for that. Lose weight in the healthiest way possible. Be healthy again and hopefully conceive someday di ba?

Anyways, got to go now..wishing you all a nice and healthy day! (unlike me)

Great time with great friends!

I had a wonderful holiday yesterday. I traveled hundred miles and spent at least 4 hours sitting and bored in the bus last Sunday but it’s worth it. I went home to Cabanatuan City to meet and reunite with special friends. We had so much fun!!!

Tere and I now officially call it “annual sleep-over” although I am hoping this would not be just once a year get-together.

We’ve missed each other so much. Have not seen them for over 3 years and it seems we just saw each other yesterday. I am so amazed how deep rooted the friendship we had. The feelings including all the secrets we can’t tell to just anyone were shared and discussed as soon as we sat down and have coffee. And we all matured really big time, before we will chit-chat with alcoholic beverage in hand and we will not sufficed our selves with just sitting in someone’s home but will be out there on the best gimik place in town. So I can say we all gotten matured in terms of that. But of course we jokingly said that we are “old” now. Plus the fact that most of us are now moms except for me and Tere and the kids were there and had great time too!

Just wanna share photos from the get-together. It’s a bit sad though that we missed one of our girl friend named Tess. So Tess, if you happen to read this, if you happen lang kasi I know naman walang internet sa bundok..hehe! please know that you are deeply missed by us.

sorry for the blurred photos..the kids are taking turn in taking pictures eh :)
